Guam Paradigm Shift
In recent years there has been more and more talk about the Paradigm Shift in reference to global wealth / power. People believe that there has been and will continue to be a transformation of global markets on an incredibly large scale. In the current reference, power and wealth will supposedly shift from the "West" to other traditionally poor regions in non immerged nations. The theory is that these nations have positioned themselves better for the future. Out of necessity, many of these nations had to deploy less costly forms of power and transportation. These factors alone have given them an incredible edge in the modern world. Of course this does not apply to China. Their emergence is based on an entirely different catalyst.
Perhaps Thomas Kuhn author of The Structure of Scientific Revolutions (where he coined the phrase Paradigm Shift in 1962) would disagree with the current meaning being "hung" on his description of a change in the assumption of the theory of science.
We on Guam have experienced no such shift in power and or wealth. But this does not mean the Guam is being overlooked by the process entirely.
Guam is a part of the "Paradigm Shift" in media. Extremely expensive and inefficient methods of getting your point across or product and services noticed by the masses are shifting on a global scale towards the internet. Even on Guam, more and more people are researching even the most basic of purchases online before making them. It seems that everybody is now forced to cut the costs of advertising. But this is limited to traditional advertising only. Companies should be and are putting more eggs in the internet basket. So, in a sense, this global, regional and local economic disaster will do more to foster the rapid growth and advancement of the internet than any previous factor.
